She Said “Trade Compliance.” Matt Rife Heard “Federal Agent.”

One of you commented on the Wizard post this week and I haven’t stopped laughing.
This is her story. I’m just the one making it worse.
Her name was Kay.
Front row. Matt Rife show. March 2025.
Matt pointed the microphone at her.
“What do you do?”
“Trade Compliance.”
Dead silence.
“…What?”
Okay. Simplify. She’s done this before.
“I deal with the Trump tariffs.”
Matt Rife put the microphone down. Picked it back up.
“You deal with Trump’s tariffs.”
“Well technically—”
“Ladies and gentlemen.”
He turned to the crowd.
“She works for Trump.”
“I don’t work FOR—”
“Are you here on assignment?”
“I’m a compliance director at an industrial—”
“A DIRECTOR.”
The crowd is already gone. Kay is trying to explain the difference between trade policy and the executive branch to a comedian in front of 1,200 people. It is not going well.
“So you’re telling me” — Matt starts pacing — “that you sit in the White House. You call the countries. You personally decide the tariff percentages.”
“That is not what I—”
“Did YOU do Canada?”
“I didn’t DO Canada—”
“She did Canada.”
Full chaos.
Kay tries one last time.
“I make sure COMPANIES follow the rules. I track shipments. I file with CBP—”
Matt stops cold. Looks at her. Looks at the crowd.
“You track shipments.”
“You know every trade rule across dozens of countries.”
“You work directly with federal agencies.”
“And you bought front row tickets to a comedy show in March 2025 — the single most chaotic month in the history of American trade policy.”
He leans in close.
“Kay. Who. Sent. You.”
The building explodes.
What Matt Rife did not know — what nobody in that room knew — is that Kay actually works in federal trade enforcement.
He didn’t make up a bit. He blew her cover.
She has not sat front row since. She now sits in the back. Near the exit. Facing the door.
For years we couldn’t explain what we do at a dinner party. Now we’re the most interesting people in the room.
But if Matt Rife ever calls on any of us?
We work at Vandelay Industries.
